CONDORMAN!

From an email I sent:

Today I accepted the position of Systems Consultant at Condor Technology Solutions, Inc. in Waltham, MA. It came down to a parlay between them and MyWay.com (both orgs are on the internet if you want to look them up). I took the job that seems more appealing for less pay. I'm such a damn idealist....

Basically the job is going to pay me to train me to learn some programming to provide to other companies that need it [purposefully run-on, thank you]. I expect to work for six months to a year as a hired gun for whoever they send me to. I'm really excited to have the opportunity to work for other hi-tech companies in the area. I can make some more connections this way and get a leg up on my next job hopefully. Additionally, it's all local-area work. Often, consultants (I'm going to keep throwing that word around) have to travel extensively.

Based on my recent--very painful--job hunting experience, I offer one piece of advice. ALWAYS be on the lookout for your next job. I don't think you can start too early.

As a funny aside, I began my half-cocked search around December '99. I got serious in March. I quit my job at Bristol Studios at the end of June and had right next to ZERO response until 11 July 00. On about 18 July I basically had two great offers in the bag and a third pending. Quite overwhelming to go from nothing to several great opportunities. When it rains it pours.

I tried to negotiate with the preferable job to meet the better offer, but I'm not very good at that. In the end, I think they are paying me more than fairly so that they can teach me the things they want me to know :-)

You should go buy CNDR.OB (Condor Technology Solutions) stock because it's in the gutter at 7/16. Yes, that's 7/16! Now that I'm working there it's likely to skyrocket. Good luck....

Well, enough about me. I REALLY want to thank everyone who responded to my cries for help. Ultimately, it was the connections through ALL of you that helped me out. If anyone else is in the market, I'll be happy to offer assistance. I have learned a thing or two. Thanks again.
