My year has been filled with fun teaching experiences. Through my job at University of Massachusetts and because of my greatest boss ever, Donna (who I wrote about in last year's website), I have been able to instruct inner-city, underprivileged kids of all ages. During the summer months, I was the Art & Creativity Teacher and assisted as a Science and Literature Teacher for Project REACH--a grant-funded program for urban students. The kids were between 11 and 17 and were full of energy and hope and creativity.
I loved my experience so much that I became an after-school teacher for GEAR UP, another grant-funded program that helps urban middle school students gain early awareness and readiness for undergraduate programs. I'm the Art & Creativity after-school teacher once again for a group of boys (6th and 7th graders) who are Special Education students full of much love and talent. I've learned so much while working with these diverse kids and realize that someday down the line I might make this a full-time profession. All in all, one thing's for certain--I will remain in the field of education.
