Libby and I made a quick trip to LA to attend Rick and Cathy Bolander's wedding while Grandma and Grandpa Saumcame out and watched the kids. It was a great tripof reconnecting with lots of old friends and getting better acquainted with some new ones.
The wedding was at an old Army base turned Air Force base (housing?) called Ft MacArthur in San Pedro, CA. We stayed at a nice hotel on the harbor that was literally right next to the base, though there was a security fence separating them. I figured someone would end up going over the sharp, pointy-topped fence to get home that night.
Prior to that, we met up with some other friends in the LA area. Todd, Mally, Matt and soon-to-be-#2 Kusserow and Craig Kleffman met us for brunch on Saturday morning. Kusserows are friends dating back to the Air Force days, and Craig is a friend from the Iowa days who is attending law school in the area. It was great to see both.
The afternoon wedding was beautiful, as the pictures will attest, and the celebration was grand. Libby and I, tired and jet-lagged, talked about leaving early several times but couldn't bring ourselves to break away. Unfortunately, the shuttle back to the hotel stopped running at 11pm, and the entire wedding wrapped up around 11:15p. Oops. There were two sober drivers and 50+ people looking for rides.
"Somebody" mentioned the short way home over the fence. I didn't think anyone would be up for it, but no one wanted to wait. Then, there was a challenge to surmount and about seven takers. Libby and I managed to get over like cat burglars. Occasionally, the little people have some advantages. Of the other five, only two ended up with severe gashes on their arms...but no pain.
We finished off the evening at the hotel bar. Wouldn't you have liked to be a guest there? Good times had by all.
Enjoy.
