OK. This is an attempt to update the last four months or so.
August 25th, Libby and I both completed the Cranberry Country Triathlon. I put the results in here mostly so that you can compare this story with that of the triathlon story from about a year ago. Note that this year the swim was my best event. Then, read this link - Tri Again. It's amazing what a little fear-based inspiration can accomplish. The bike really is where the triathlon is won or lost...at least at these distances. I'm looking forward to next year.
Additionally, notice that Libby was all of nine minutes slower than me. I had to lie on my back in the dirt when I was done because I was so tired. She could have done another one. Strange. I put the men's and women's winning times in here for reference.
Waltham Hi-Tech Classic September 15th, Libby ran this 10k, which is 6.2 miles. I intended to run it, but I had the West Nile virus or something. Her official time is slower than we clocked, but she got third for the women! Are you kidding me? Who knew she was so fast?
Reach the BeachThis is a 200-mile race from Bretton Woods to Hampton Beach, NH. It's a relay race, and you can have as few as four people and as many as twelve people on a team. Our team was supposed to have twelve but we ended up with eleven. With 12 people, you would run three legs totalling about sixteen miles. Needless to say, Libby picked up an extra leg. She ran about 22 miles. The biggest challenge of the race is that you have to coordinate the team getting from one transition area to the next, and you have about eight hours between each run if you only do three.
An old Academy friend, Greg Bender (AONG), got us into the race, and we travelled together. We had two teams who opted to run together so Libby and I ran our legs together. It rained nonstop from the beginning of the race on Friday until about 5am Saturday morning. Libby and I had a hilly, 7.5-mile leg at about 11pm in the torrent. Hard to see how that's fun, but somehow it was. It's a cool thing to be able to do with your wife and friends--both new and old.
Libby's team and mine are the bottom two, and I included the top three times. Crazy cats.
Randomity Finally, Eric Bulger, another Academy friend, passed through en route to a stable, instructor pilot job in Corpus Christi, TX. This was on a Wednesday night when yet another friend from LA, Rick Bolander, called to say that he was coming on Saturday. Rick and his girlfriend, Cathy, stayed with us for a night. It was great to see them all.
TUFTS Health Plan 10K For Women Libby didn't place as highly in this much more competitive race, but ran 42:48. That's an improvement of about 1:30! At this rate, she'll be a "racer" or something.
Sorry for the large picture size. I'm working on yet a new process. Hopefully, they'll make for better printouts.... Enjoy.
